I’m reading all the news and reports from actual Honduran people involved. I’m also using my knowledge of Honduran political history from my time in the military, as well as refreshing myself by watching a few testimonies. So here’s my opinion about the Honduran problem (feel free to comment about it):

Zelaya became president by running with the Liberal party (in conjunction with Roberto Micheletti and other liberals) on a platform to spur capitalism. See, Honduran politics have been largely influenced by the more wealthy men, so it was no real surprise when Manuel Zelaya won. He had a lot of support of his own party, courting the strong middle and upper class voters while placating the poor.

Now, when Zelaya became increasingly more fascist/socialist – even talking to Hugo Chavez and supposedly talking to Castro – his own party began to spread the fear of him turning Honduras into a Venezuelan police state. Mostly because his policies were socialist and harmed their fat, wealthy wallets. This paranoia spread, and when Zelaya made the mistake of trying to seize power on his own with a binding resolution, the dam broke. Before the vote on the resolution, the members of the national congress pressured the Honduran supreme court to issue an order to the military to remove Zelaya from power. Which for all intents and purposes is a military coup (definition – the use or display of military force to remove an official ruling body from power).

Now, most of the people in Honduras are presently in conflict with how the entire situation was resolved, as the rest of the world. Let me say right now that I totally sympathize with the people of Honduras since it was clear that Zelaya was cooky and power-hungry. Possibly even swayed by the fascist socialists* of other nations. But at the same time, I do not condone the method in which the Liberal and Nationalist parties running the congress took to get rid of Zelaya.

  1. It’s disingenuous. I consider some of the wealthy politicians of Honduras pretty much like some of our wealthy politicians – fat lazy fucks who do nothing for the entire nation as long as it serves their purpose. And they did nothing for like months.
  2. Michelleti and the rest of the Liberal party – including people like Chancellor Ortez – totally supported Zelaya during his campaign and his earliest months. Only when they felt threatened in both their station and their wallets did they actually take any action at all.
  3. The lazy asses in the national congress pressured the court to use the military to remove the President, because they didn’t want to admit how WRONG they were for supporting him in the first place. Why should they get their hands dirty or admit their mistakes?

If the Hondurans want to know why the rest of the world is unhappy with the entire situation, it’s because they used the military and basically created a situation where there’s unrest and blatant abuse of power (on both sides). You can’t pull a technical military coup and expect the rest of the world that has moved on since 1970 to go, “Well, that’s okay. We condone you ignoring a democratic process.”

What’s even worse is that Obama never came out in full support of anyone, but only expressed his concern that the proper democratic process was not being followed in the Honduras. That instability and violence could break out – if not in the country, then around the country by the people who were allied to Zelaya. I’m not a fan of Obama, but he’s my president and the Chancellor Ortez goes and calls him a “negrito” and verbally abuses the rest of the Americas. How can we trust this guy or the rest of the Honduran congress not to be idiots (or fat greedy fucks) when they act like idiots?

Like I said, I sympathize with the people of Honduras who were wronged and almost taken for a ride by Zelaya. However, they are now allowing themselves to be taken for another ride by the wealthy who think that bullying the courts into using the military to get what they want without admitting they were wrong. It’s the mistake of letting your fear (of Venezuela) overpower your sensibilities, so you make the mistake of giving other idiots power. Wake up – don’t trade one dictator for another group of dictators.

And that’s my opinion.

* I apologize for using the terms fascist and socialist together, since they do have many aspects that are diametrically opposed. However, people like Hugo Chavez and Castro have taken the worst parts of both political theories that I can only adequately describe as “fascist socialism.” Not sure how to express that better than to mix the two terms together and hope you get my point.

Cyber Attack!

So everyone’s blaming North Korea – notoriously known for lagging behind in tech – for the cyber attack on several government systems starting on July 4. I guess if you can’t actually use the nukes you got (due to China’s influence), you gotta fight back somehow. I wonder if it was instigated from Kim’s PC …

The violence in western China is getting worse. Some of their ethnic fighting makes Iraq look like a cakewalk.

Score one for the Air Force and the Marines, who worked together to blow up a convoy full of Taliban fighters. In Pakistan, on top of that.

Palin can interpret this news in two ways – good and bad. Hey, 70% of Republicans still want to vote for her. However, 30% don’t, and over 55% of the independent fence-sitting crowd wants her to disappear for good. It’s a well-known fact that having less than 90% of Republican support behind you means you won’t win the White House. So why she’s even talking about being in the White House is beyond me.*

We all knew Al Gore was certified bonkers, but now it’s completely official. Godwin’s Law wins out. Again.

TECHNOLOGY

  • Google is going to try their hand at making an O/S. Which sounds cool, but I hated Chrome before, so why would I try Chrome the O/S? Good luck to them anyway.
  • If you’re going to build a wind farm, you should probably be smart enough to consider how distribution is going to play into it. Anyone want a giant turbine?

* And not only talk about it, but talk about using the White House legal team to avoid ethics violations. What a noob. Same stupid rhetoric as “the Vice President runs Congress.”

Ron Gilbert

Talked to Gabe/Mike yesterday, and he was stoked that they’re getting Ron Gilbert – who developed Manaic Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island, worked on Total Annihilation, and runs Hothead Studios – to be PAX Oh Niner’s* Keynote Speaker. I’m assuming that the announcement of such a talented individual was already done some time ago, but it’s like a new thing every day with the PA guys.

Every day.

On a lighter note, it looks like Mike may be coming to visit Omaha in December, so we’re planning to get together and do something. We did something at PAX, but it was like a half-awake something. Blurry somethings are not exactly something, if you catch my drift.

I still need to post the comic that he drew and my wife colored for the Battle Forum.

* Apparently, Oh Niner is the way he and Tycho are referring to PAX this year. I keep saying it sounds like they are a pair of gay robots, but I’m basically ignored when I insult them.

So I’m sure everyone heard and already reacted to Palin’s resignation speech over the weekend. The Republicans need this like they need another hole in the head, and they aren’t happy about it either. Not like a lot of Alaskans cared about her. Time has a list of reasons of why she is bailing out of politics (hattip Omlette), but as her Lt. Governor Sean Parnell alluded, over $2m in background requests and $500k in lawyers were maintained on taxpayer’s money for her during her run as Vice Presidential candidate. I’m guessing it is a monetary reason, and she’s trying to get out before a real economic scandal erupts.

In Soviet Russia, the diplomacy tests you!

But the real news is that North Korea is slowly gathering the ire of all the nations in the world. Including China. I can smell the Chinese invasion on the horizon.

I understand the reasoning behind the Honduran coup (somewhat greed, somewhat paranoia about giving the country over to Hugh Chavez) but honestly – military coups are so yesterday’s form of government upheaval.

Coleman gave up, allowing Al Franken to win the Senate seat. Of course, Coleman’s claiming the system’s broken, even though he’s the one who called for a recount on all the absentee ballots. Just glad it’s over – that was 8 wasted months in court and in the media.

That South Carolina governor that disappeared not only visited his Argentinan mistress, but apparently a lot of his old girlfriends. GG, Sanford, GG. He did reimburse the state for using $3k to visit her once, but JFC dude.

Wal-Mart jumped on the bandwagon for Obama’s health care plan. Not that they’re doing it for the right reasons – I’m pretty sure that Wal-Mart would be more than willing to NOT pay for health care themselves, just adding more money to their profits. Fucking Wal-Mart.

Iran’s looking into the election demonstrations, trying to tie the opposition leader to inciting the violence. I’m pretty sure that Ahmadinejad wants to kill his opponent, since Mousavi has the charisma to take him down legitimately.

I’m sure everyone’s watching the Honduran coup – the military leader in charge says he’s not going to ever, ever, ever give up his position as the ruler of Honduras. Which means that violence is assured, since the remaining countries in the Americas are pretty sure that he has to go. Expect to see some bombing and some invading going on soon.

Thriller, Thriller Night

Most humorous pictures I’ve seen to-date.

We’ve determined that with the recent proliferation of Celebrities of Mass Destruction that these deaths no longer come in threes – they come in sixes. Which means two have yet to die.

(Hattips to some people somewhere … I don’t remember where)

The song – Lisztomania – is by Phoenix, who is slowly growing on me. If you haven’t noticed already, they are doing the dance moves from The Breakfast Club. Which is an odd, but cool, throwback to the 80’s.

Is It Discrimination?

I have to agree – if you are making a court ruling to avoid a possible lawsuit, ur doin it wrong. I can see how if you don’t have all the facts present at the time that you could reach the wrong conclusion, though.

Madoff’s going to prison – for 150 years. Holy crap in a handbasket. That means parole comes in … 30 years. I don’t think ol’ Bernie’s going to live that long.

Billy Mays died after being hit on the head during a rough landing in an airplane (he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt when told to). Of course, not even OXICLEAN, ORANGE GLO or MIGHTY PUTTY could save him. I wonder how his Discovery channel show is going to go on without him?

From a number of related problems (health and drug). Farrah Fawcett unfortunately also died on the same day. Guess who’s going to be remembered and mourned the most?

The supposed pedophile and confirmed destitute pop star. You’ve been hit by, you’ve been hit by – a smooth criminal!

The insurgents are getting a little more tricky. This time, they booby-trapped a motorcycle to explode and kill 15 people in Iraq. Sneaksy bastards.

Rhode Island is changing its name. It’s dropping the Provincial Plantations portion off the end of the official state title, because it was originally there to proudly announce it’s large slave population. *golfclap*
