I’ve been conducting email correspondence with Kate Beaton. If you don’t know who that is, it’s the lady who draws Hark! A Vagrant. When I sent my first email, I wasn’t expecting anything in return, because she says on her About page that she doesn’t have time to answer every email. And she’s now very accomplished and successful, and I’m not (you see, accomplished and successful people only tend to talk to each other).
But instead, she wrote a rather moderately long email back to me. So I wrote back. And then she replied. Repeat.
Recently, I told her my favorite comic series by her was Chopin and Lizst. I love classical music, and I know my classical music history. I laughed so hard at this comic. I also showed it to all my coworkers who claimed they were classical music fans to weed out the liars! Anyway, a few messages prior, I also told her that I DJ electronic/dubstep music. Her response was rather amusing:
“It’s not everyday that you get a note of appreciation on your Chopin and Lizst classical music comic from an electronic/dubstep DJ. I mean, those are two entirely different genres. ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.”
I laughed. She doesn’t write to me like immediately after I write to her, so like after a week of no response, I always assume she’s done talking with me. But just as I prepare to move on, she sends me something to talk about. So kudos to another web comic artist who actually takes the time to talk to me!
