For awhile now, I’ve been seeing growing numbers of readers. Maybe because I have joined a lot of forums, or maybe because I have posted on Ratfist‘s and Manly Guys Doing Manly Thing‘s comment boards. People see a link to my blog in those places and come over and look at my blog. But that’s only 40% of the people who show up, I’m finding. The rest come here on searches or links on other popular sites.
Out of the 30 or so new people who visit my site a day (lately), an average of 5 of them stay. That’s one sixth of new readers. My present SUBSCRIBER count is 122. That’s right – one hundred and twenty-two people. I wouldn’t have even noticed had I not accidentally seen the triple digit number in the lower left corner. I’m surprised, really.
I’m trying to decide what is doing this. Is it my political and religious position? Or something else? The largest responses and peak days come when I rant about politics. Or I talk about video games. I started my blog to just rant, and have a few friends read it. But then something happened – people found me, and now I’m getting linked more and more every day. And while I’m “W00t!” I’m also like, “WTF??”
Either way, maybe it’s my political independent rants. I mean, it appears to be working for some people. My hated nemesis Glenn Beck is gone, and weaksauce Rush Limbaugh appears to be losing listeners in a flood somewhat like the Mississippi River is flooding Lousiana (oooh, too soon?) I see that there is a growing trend towards middle ground politics. That’s weird, but comforting.
Anyway, it’s fun. And I’ll keep writing regardless, even if everyone leaves and never comes back. I started doing this for myself, and I’ll keep doing it for myself. And that’s all that matters. The added readership (hello people!) is icing on the cake.*
