And I enjoyed the ending.
(Highlight below for Spoilers)
I knew from AC1 that there were “other” beings who created the Pieces of Eden – primarily the Apple – to keep Mankind in order. What I did not expect was that they are merely Those Who Came Before, and not aliens per se. At some point, the sun flared up and nearly killed everything on Earth, so the advanced lifeforms made peace with the humans they helped evolve to ensure their survival. The part where you unlock Subject 16’s memory is pretty cool, and was such a foreshadowing to what I suspected I would find in the Vault.
I also surmised fairly early (well, after I had made it to Venice) from reading the Codex pages that Ezio was the Prophet, mostly because he’s Desmond’s ancestor, and Desmond is finding out the Truth through Ezio (which is what Prophets do – reveal the Truth). When Minerva focused on me while talking, I was all “Yep, she’s talking to me (Desmond), not Ezio.” And then she straight out tells you that. So awesome.
So now I assume we go looking for the other Vaults (or Temples) to find the other Pieces of Eden. We know the Staff and the Apple are two, and from 16’s puzzles that the Sword is another. I’m guessing there is a Crown and … ? Five pieces in all. One Vault is for sure in North America, and the other – I’m assuming – is in Siberia.
Great game and a vast improvement over the first Assassin’s Creed, for sure. So much better control and more ways to kill people. And it was much, much, much better only having 100 feathers to find rather than 400 flags. :p
