It would appear so. Everyone from Reuters, to MSNBC, to CNN, to Fox News, to the local paper, to older generation people bloggin’, has conceded that Obama won the debate because McCain was lost. Even before the halfway point. The Gallop Poll enforces the idea because Obama’s national lead has gone up by 11. My criticisms are basically the same as the media’s. That and every paper I read today, there was an editorial cartoon making fun of Sarah Palin in the most abusive ways possible (my personal favorite had to be her giving a non-answer to the moderator’s question – “Who goes first?”)
Gates has begun to realize the potential for a monumental screw-up after the worst backlash point in Afghanistan, so he’s calling for more NATO involvement. And then NATO wants to talk to the Taliban as a strategy. It’s like the US is slowly becoming irrelevant in our own war.
I spoke yesterday about how one of the main obstacles of the Iraq security deal was the persecution of US troops and contractors for abuses. Well, there is apparently a lot more contention than I let on. I’m going to make a prediction and say that if it does go through, it won’t be until the very last second before the UN deadline expires.
Nebraska News:
Remember how I said that I thought the new Safe Haven law in Nebraska was a bad idea? Well, it turns out all the bad things I predicted are now happening more and more with alarming frequency. Which is sad, but you can’t trust people to act like people (but you can count on them to act like self-centered animals).
