Much like this guy, I was watching a TV program the other night that was speaking of the great glories of GW Bush. I watch these shows to laugh at them, mostly, because they are so full of shit that I can smell it over the airwaves. Then they go and play, “God Bless The USA” in the background while talking about his patriotism.
I fucking hate that song. Call me unpatriotic or whatever, but that is the most dreadful song in the history of songs written about America.
- It slaughters the English language.
- It’s a country song. I fucking hate certain types of country music, and this falls in that “HOLY SHIT TURN IT OFF” category.
- It speaks to arrogant Americans, who then use it to prove their arrogant natures over other nations. Most foreigners I know laugh when they hear this song, since it’s pathetic.
- Somehow, it became an American anthem. A shitty, God-awful tune that hurts people’s (and a lot of American’s) ears. I guess that speaks for how we embrace quality in America.
- It’s used in everything nowadays. It’s the Wal-Mart mentality of pandering to people’s national pride.
So yeah, while it may have been written with the best intentions, it is still a terrible song that makes me want to strangle the shit out of whoever’s idea it was to use the song in various situations.
Quickly, to the Time Hole, so that we can prevent this song from coming to be!
I’m going to laugh at your reaction.
“God Bless The USA” was originally penned as a ironic form of protest song. The country-type who wrote it was rather annoyed when his concept backfired and it became a pinnacle of patriotic feel-good nationalism.
…….. Personally I think you’re just bias because you don’t like country music. That simply means your a commie!
(Though dont get me wrong- My family’s predominantly southern and I grew up on country- Proper old-school country. I hate some of this new “lets-turn-electric-guitars-into-pop-rock-country” shit. That’s not country.)
LOL
There’s country that I like, and country that I don’t like.
I like a few of Clint Black’s songs, for example. But when it comes to songs like “Copperhead Road,” fuck country music.
