So in the discussion of “God” and science -
It literally frustrates me when Christians don’t understand their own history. Some chick while I was posting a comment said, “Yeah, God is plural in the Old Testament because of the Holy Trinity.”
Okay, first things first. The Old Testament? It’s Hebrew. Part of the Jewish faith. I doubt when the Hebrews wrote the Old Testament that they meant God was plural as in the Holy Trinity way. The Holy Trinity didn’t even exist officially as a concept of Christianity until after the first Vatican council! So stop acting like Genesis was written by Christians. It’s NOT.
Second – the Hebrews were influenced by the Egyptians and what we would later call the Persians. So there’s going to be Christian ideals that are actually based on Egyptian and Persian concepts. Even concepts influenced by the Romans, who were – up to the first Century – polytheistic people. By the time the first Pope took up the mantle in Rome (and then Constantinople, Byzantine and then Avignon, France), the Christian faith and bible had been rewritten three times.
And all this division in the Christian faith should teach people that there’s no way to know the mind of God. To say we do is arrogant and self-serving. Most of you want to say that your religion is perfect because it makes you feel “special.” Well, guess what? Your religion is most likely the meshing of several religions – some of which are still around today. You want to know why so many religions seem similar to the Christian faith? Because the Christian religion is based on concepts of Hinduism and Judaism, with a sprinkling of Egyptian and Grecian mythologies. There is nothing original (hey, Jesus was Hebrew, spoke highly of his Hebrew people and died a Hebrew – even the Apostles who wrote the New Testament were Hebrew) about the Christian religion.
You can throw your bible verses at me all you want. I mean, they are the Roman Latin translation of the Hebrew texts, later translated into German, later translated into into English, with a lot lost in the translation.
If you want to believe in the Creator, believe in the Creator. Just don’t believe in the Creator as described by other mortals unless you truly believe in all of it. Follow your Heart. That’s why you have one. Don’t let them take that away from you.
EDIT: Oh yes! I’m going to Hell, according to Baptists for Brownback. THANK YOU FOR THE 20 SOMETHING ODD HITS I GOT TODAY. I’m so glad that you are naive enough to state that anything that isn’t Conservative is no longer right wing and is – instead – “left wing manure.” I’m so glad you are showing your TRUE Christian colors.
Okay, aside from the fact that I think you are wasting your time talking about religion -
It’s awesome that a bunch of “blogging” Christians deemed you hellbound. Seriously, who wants to end up in Heaven with those losers.
Hey, Baptists for Brownback: add me to your long list of people, because I like it when people act retarded on the Internet. THANK YOU.
Oh, dear Lord, please forgive these people.
I would like to echo the sentiment that a lot of people have on your blog and other blogs that sites like Baptists for Brownback have condemned -
Please do not view the rest of my faith (Baptists) in the light of these few extremists. I pray to Jesus that they understand the consequences of their actions some day.
As a follower of Christ, I understand why you say things that you do, and do not condemn you to Hell for it. I’m hoping that God blesses you and shows you the way. Peace go with you.
Jonah -
Thank you, and peace go with you, too.
